HOUSEMAN
assalamualaikum , today i want to share 
about the brief life of a HOUSEMAN 
this informtaion was taken from ' doctorjob's
courses now book ' issue health and science
this is DR MUHAMMAD AMIR AYUB's life
he graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia
with a Bachelor of Medicine abd Bachelor of Surgery ( MBBS ) 
he is currently completing the first og his two years
of compulsory housemanship at Hospital Kuala Lumpur


a houseman is the most junior doctor in the healthcare system
you will have to work in a rotation of six posting/section-
internal medicine , surgery , paediatrics , obstetrics and gynaecology ( O&G ) ,
orthopaedics and emergency medicine / anaesthesia ( either of two ) 
a houseman needs to work with all of the a bove section before becoming
a full-fledged edical officer

this is the typical day at work during the fasting month when he was
' on call '

5.00am - he wake up and eat sahur with his wife

7.00am - he reach the ward and start his round . he needs do morning reviews about 
what happended duringthe night . this reviews must be have 
enough details so that peers and senior can 
understand the specific intricacies regarding patients
after finishing his review , he needs to perform investigations that
were missed during the previous ' on call ' 
such as taking blood

8.30am - the specialis round starts.sometimes a medocal officer
(MO-senior) does round first 
( about half an hour before the specialist come )
houseman needs to present cases they have reviewed
lots of scolding occurs here

10.00am-12.00pm - houseman need to carry out special orders
some will be assigned to emergency operations so they will go
to the operating theatre ( OT ) 
some will head off to the radiology department to order 
special radiological investigations like CT/MRI scans
some will refer cases to other department
some scolding may occur here

12.00pm-2.00pm - afternoon review starts
sometimes when it is not a fasting  month
it is the time for lunch

2.00pm - it is the time for houseman to see patients
in the clinic - then , houseman needs to
discuss the patient's files with MOs or specialists

4.00pm - the afternoon rounds with specialist and MOs
lots of scolding occurs here

5.30pm - for his ward , a houseman needs to punch in by 7.30am and
 punch out only after 5.30pm .
before punch out , i pass over any blood tests/work/issues to be 
dealt with the person on call
' on call ' starts now 
for his ward , only two doctors are on call
at any one time
the number of patients maybe in 
12 to 30 person

6.30pm - the night review starts now

7.30pm - he break fast ( dinner ) while doing his rounds
he checks especially for things
not finished by colleagues before
they puch out

9.30pm-1.00am - at nay time , the specialists / MO will come
for the night rounds 
lots of scolding occurs here

1.00am-4.45am - it is the time for rest

4.45am - wake up and go to sahur ( in fasting month ) 
the , he needs to take the blood for the morning
review later he turn on the lights and 
wake up the patients

7.30am - the morning review starts

9.00am - it is morning rounds 
lots of scolding occurs here

11.00am - he finish the morning rounds with
the people on call for that day

12.30pm - when everything is settled , he will go home ..

so , becoming a doctor is not an easy stuff
you need to memorise thousands of science facts
and in the same time know how to carry
clinical duties
